Massage Therapy Types
Acupressure
Acupressure is an ancient healing art developed in Asia over 5,000 years ago that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body’s natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body’s life force energy to aid healing. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same points, but acupuncture employs needles, while acupressure uses gentle but firm pressure.
Deep Tissue Massage
A technique used to manipulate the deep tissue below the superficial muscles. Maximizing specific pressure strokes using the elbow, thumb and forearm, this technique helps to break up adhesions and relieve pain from the body.
Craniosacral
Craniosacral therapy balances the rhythm of the craniosacral system. It was developed in the 20th century in the United States. Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle method for enhancing the body’s own ability to heal itself.
Hot Stone Massage
Designed to enhance deep relaxation, the Hot Stone Massage is a traditional Swedish massage enhanced by the use of heated basalt stones. The heat penetrates deep into the muscles, melting away layers of tension and stress.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is an effective hands-on technique that provides sustained pressure into Myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. The fascia is a specialized system of the body that has an appearance similar to a spider’s web or a sweater. Our one-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which our therapists use a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy.
Pregnancy Massage
During pregnancy there are many physical and emotional changes to the body. Massage is a great way to relax, increase your energy and relieve discomforts and pains. Pregnancy massage can be done throughout your whole pregnancy and also in labor. Make sure to communicate with your therapists if there are any risk factors or anticipated complications.
Reflexology
Reflexology is a holistic non-invasive therapy that helps restore and maintain the body’s natural state of equilibrium and facilitate healing. In reflexology, the feet, hands and ears are viewed as mirror images of the body, with reflexes corresponding to every part and organ of the body. Stimulating these reflexes encourages natural healing. Reflexology is beneficial for all ages.
Reiki
Reiki is a natural healing method that heals at all levels: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. The work Reiki is a combination of two Japanese words: “Rei” and “Ki”. “Rei” means spiritual intelligence or supernatural force; “Ki” means life energy. In the Western world Reiki is mostly described as Universal life force energy. Reiki is practiced by people from all over the world and is being incorporated in hospitals, as well as in scientific research.
Shiatsu
The word Shiatsu is Japanese and means pressure “atsu” with fingers “shi”. Shiatsu is an oriental (eastern) therapy of physical and energy rebalance. Usually it is defined as an oriental “massage” but it is much more than that. It acts through pressure with thumbs, fingers and palms applied to determined areas and points of the human body, without the use of any mechanical or other type of instrument, correcting internal dysfunctions, promoting and keeping the body healthy and treating specific illnesses.
Swedish Massage
The most familiar of all massage techniques in the western world, our Swedish massage works on the principle of rhythmic, flowing compression of the muscles inducing relaxation and rejuvenation.
Aromatherapy
Heighten any massage experience by enjoying the benefits of 100% essential oils. Essential oils are manufactured by plants and stored in special cells or sacs found in roots, leaves, bark, stems and flowers. Essential oils have properties that will soothe the senses, invigorate the body, and promote physical well-being. Ask your therapist if essential oils are beneficial for you!
